Recycling is possible everywhere!
Today, the Chaleur Regional Service Commission has launched a campaign centred around the importance of establishing a collection system for recyclables in public places, with the aim of raising awareness amongst the regional population. The residential sector has already been benefitting from a curbside collection of recyclables for over a year, and the task now is to encourage the population to find out about the ways in which recycling can be made possible throughout the Chaleur region. “The needs and expectations of our citizens are what guides the development of the Chaleur Regional Service Commission” affirms Ron Bourque, president of the Chaleur RSC.
The natural extension of a well established practice to maximise the efforts of the citizens within the region, the Chaleur RSC wishes to generate interest amongst the business community and heads of institutions towards this project. With people already accustomed to recycling at home, it is now desirable that there should be access to blue bins in apartment buildings, businesses, schools, industrial enterprises as well as public places and services.
"In 2015, 1,728 tons of recyclable materials were gathered through the municipal collection system from residences. This represents more than 15% of all waste materials. If the service was also offered in the institutional, commercial and industrial sector, we would be able to collect 1,200 tons more recyclable materials!"
- Jocelyne Hachey, Executive Director of the Chaleur RSC
Although it is possible to occasionally come across blue bins in public places, it is often the owners or directors who must take the responsibility upon themselves to bring the recyclables to a collection centre. The Chaleur RSC is therefore appealing to the population to communicate with them so that they may gather the names of businesses or institutions that are interested in benefitting from a collection service for recyclables in their establishment. We are speaking specifically of institutional, commercial and industrial areas. The Chaleur RSC invites people to reach them at 725.2414 for more information.
